Their theme is that modern Democrats didn't lose presidential elections because they were liberal. They lost because they didn't fight back, whether it was Dukakis in 1988 or John Kerry in 2004. You'll recall that Kerry was famously vacationing with a lead in the polls when the Bush machine turned loose a group calling itself Swift Boat Veterans for Truth to suggest he wasn't really a Vietnam hero.
